Canon Gordon Rideout was chaplain  on a military base in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, in the UK.

In the 1970s Canon Gordon Rideout was taken to a military court on child sex-abuse charges.

He was cleared by the military hearing.

Rideout was cleared of three indecent assaults by a court martial in 1972. One of Rideout's victims, June Potter said: "We went out of our way to write statements and everything. I gave them names."

Canon Gordon Rideout went on to sexually abuse young girls and boys across the south of England.

Rideout was chairman of governors at St Mary's special school in Bexhill until 2009.


Vincent S. aged 10 yrs, from Grafton Children's Home, was taken to Elm Guest House (above) and to a house in Bexhill.

Reportedly, pedophile rings use children's care homes throughout the UK and Northern Ireland.

Rideout abused kids at a Barnardo's home, at Ifield Hall in Crawley, West Sussex

He savagely beat the kids who tried to speak out.

Barnardo's is a children's charity associated with child abuse.

Prince Charles's wife Camilla became president of Barnardo's in 2007, replacing Cherie Blair.

Rideout has now been found guilty of 34 counts of indecent assault and two counts of attempted rape on 16 children between 1962 and 1973.

He was cleared of one count of indecent assault on a boy at a second Barnardo's home in Essex.

As an assistant curate at St Mary's Church in Crawley, in the diocese of Chichester, Rideout used to visit the Barnardo's children's home at Ifield Hall in Crawley.

Rideout attempted to rape a girl who attended choir practice.

After another rape attempt in a wooded area, a girl believed she was pregnant. 

When a manager at the home was informed, the girl victim was slapped across her face. 

The Barnardo's home had a ‘brutal regime where children were taught how to behave by beatings’.

One girl told the police: ‘I was too scared, too scared. I didn't want to be beaten again, too scared. The beatings were so much worse than what that man was doing. The beatings were terrible, absolutely terrible.’

Another victim said she told the married couple who ran the home that the priest was abusing them.

They responded by throwing her against a wall, breaking one of her ribs.

Rideout is the latest figure from the scandal-hit diocese of Chichester to be convicted of sex crimes against children.



Several clergymen from the diocese have been arrested, charged and convicted of child sexual abuse.

Investigations into Rideout began after police were handed a confidential report by Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss in May 2011.

Another priest referred to in the report, Robert Coles, of Eastbourne, was jailed for eight years in February 2013 for sex offences against young boys.

Evidence backing his claim came from ­a second boy from Grafton Close.

Grafton Close was run by Richmond Council in London.

Files held by Richmond Council show its then ­director of social services, Louis Minster, twice called up the file on the second boy.

This boy was interviewed by a social worker and a Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector in 1983.

This was a year after a raid on Elm Guest House.

There then appears to have been a police cover-up.

One is John Stingemore, identified at a 1990 inquest as former deputy manager of the home. 

He was succeeded by Neil Kier, seen in the photo preparing food.

Sources say detectives regard Kier as a key witness but he is not a suspect.

Martin Allen, 15, was last seen by a friend at King's Cross Tube station as he made his way home from school on November 5, 1979. Martin's family lived in a cottage in the grounds of the Australian High Commission in Hyde Park Gate, Kensington.

"A member of the public saw an apprehensive boy fitting his description with a man on a Tube train travelling towards Earl's Court." 

The man was heard to say to the boy: 'Don't try to run.'

Asked by The Independent what the dossier alleged and what action, he took, Sir Leon replied by email: "I have no recollection of these matters. Sorry!"

Elm Guest House "became a place where men had sex with young prostitutes and later, allegedly, boys and girls from the now-closed Grafton Close children's home in nearby Hounslow. 

"Police raided the property in 1982 and charged its owner, German-born Carole Kasir, with keeping an immoral house but did not arrest any guests."

Childcare professionals claim that there was an establishment cover-up.

Anthony Milsom, a paedophile from Hull, who is alleged to have stayed at Elm Guest House, later moved to Newtown, Powys, where he was convicted of a string of sex offences.

He was jailed indefinitely in 2011, but six months later appeal court judges reduced his sentence to three-and-a-half years. 

Another alleged visitor was Colin Peters, a Foreign Office barrister, who was jailed in 1989 for being part of a child abuse ring "used by highly placed civil servants and well-known public officials".

The most infamous alleged visitor to Elm Guest House was Warwick Spinks.

Warwick Spinks, convicted in 1995 of very violent child sex offences, committed in Hastings in the UK.

Warwick Spinks is linked to snuff movies.

Award-winning journalist Nick Davies wrote about the grim mysteries of snuff movies.

"One boy had simply been shot through the head, Terry said: he had been causing trouble and had been executed in front of several paedophiles.

Member of the UK Parliament Geoffrey Dickens reportedly made two copies of his 50-page dossier naming top paedophile child abusers.

In 1984, Dickens gave one copy to the Home Secretary Leon Brittan.

On 29 November 1985, Dickens said in a speech to the Commons that: "The noose around my neck grew tighter after I named a former high-flying British diplomat on the Floor of the House.

"Honourable Members will understand that where big money is involved and as important names came into my possession so the threats began.

"First, I received threatening telephone calls followed by two burglaries at my London home. Then, more seriously, my name appeared on a multi-killer's hit list".

Three priests and a former priest have reported Cardinal Keith O'Brien to the Vatican over allegations of 'inappropriate behaviour'.

The claims stretch back 33 years.

The four priests are from the diocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

According to one of the priests, the cardinal developed an inappropriate relationship with him, resulting in a need for long-term psychological counselling.

O'Brien has strongly opposed gay rights and has condemned homosexuality as immoral.

Reportedly the first allegation against the cardinal dates back to 1980.

The complainant was then a 20-year-old at St Andrew's College, Drygrange.

Allegedly, O'Brien made an inappropriate approach after night prayers.

"Priest A" describes O'Brien coming to his parish, and inappropriate contact between the two taking place.

"Priest B" claims that he was invited to spend a week "getting to know" O'Brien at the archbishop's residence. He describes unwanted behaviour by the cardinal after a drinking session.

"Priest C" claims that O'Brien used inappropriate contact, during night prayers.

Terry Earland, former head of children's services at Richmond, has revealed that on at least two occasions he referred complaints of sexual abuse from children to police and colleagues at the council.

Some councils, including Islington, have refused to check their records.

6. In Islington in North London a child sex network infiltrated 12 children's homes, while Margaret Hodge (friend of Tony Blair) was council leader.

Key staff, The Mail on Sunday revealed, were from Jersey or had strong Channel Islands connections.

'It is becoming clear that children at Haut de la Garenne (on Jersey) were sent on holiday to children's homes in England which were also notorious for abuse, while the children in the English homes they went to were sent to Haut de la Garenne. 

"They literally swapped beds...

'I am perturbed that police in Britain have not written to all local authorities on the mainland to demand they check which children they sent to Jersey.'

In 1985, 14-year-old Jason Swift was killed by a child-abuse gang.

Sidney Cooke, Leslie Bailey, Robert Oliver, and Lennie Smith, were imprisoned in 1989 for the manslaughter of Jason Swift.

Cooke and his gang had sexually tortured and prostituted a number of boys.

The gang is believed to have killed at least nine children.[2]

Cooke was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

In 1998, Cooke was let out of prison eight years early.

The paedophile and serial killer Marc Dutroux could be freed from jail just nine years after being jailed for life for a series of child murders which shocked his native Belgium. Dutroux supplied children to the elite.

There have been allegations that very powerful people have been involved in a child-abuse ring connected to Islington children's homes. ( Jersey child abuse link to Islington, London)

In 1982 Margaret Hodge (nee Oppenheimer) became Islington council leader.

She became a close friend of Tony Blair, who lived in Islington, a few doors away from Hodge.

In February 1990 Liz Davies and David Cofie, senior social workers, discovered evidence of sex abuse of children and reported it to a residents' meeting attended by Mrs Hodge.

In May 1990 Mr Cofie and Ms Davies were told by Lyn Cusack, assistant director of social services, to stop interviewing children about the abuse claims.

On 1 May 1997 Tony Blair moved from Islington to Downing Street.

In June 2003 Mrs Hodge was made minister for Children.

The Independent, 9 March 2008, had an article on missing children (Our children are missing: Most vulnerable youngsters are targeted) which tells us the following:

In 2008, the UK's Police National Missing Persons Bureau hasd1,418 "open cases" of missing children.

In 2008, according to Police figures, more than 100 children who should have be in care had been missing for at least four years.

Many children who go missing are not reported to the police.

Member of parliament Helen Southworth says: "All figures on children missing from anywhere are estimates because, astonishingly, there is no requirement for data to be recorded or collected nationally."

Almost 1,000 children went missing from UK residential and foster care in 2007.

The number that went missing from care increased from 570 in 1997 to 950 in 2007.
