Ronnie Biggs (top left) and his pop-star son Mike (bottom left)

Ronnie Biggs was a small-time London crook.

In 1963, Biggs helped to steal from a mail train the sum of £2.6 million.

This is the equivalent today of £50 million or $80 million.

Some people believe that the brains behind this Great Train Robbery was a group of well-connected mercenaries who wanted the money to finance various coups.

Reginald Bevins, the government minister in charge of the post office, issued a statement stating that the Great Train Robbery was likely to be "an inside job".

He declared that there would be a public inquiry.

50th anniversary of the great train robbery

An article in The Sunday Times claimed that in 1973 Frederick Forsyth (above) had helped fund an attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea by mercenaries who had previously worked in Biafra.

The gang who carried out the Great Train Robbery consisted of 17 full members.

Only 11 of them were sent to prison, and two of them fairly quickly escaped from prison.

Biggs was one of those arrested and sent to prison for 30 years.

After about a year in jail, Biggs escaped and traveled to Belgium, Paris, Australia, Panama and finally Rio de Janeiro.

Bigg's share of the loot was £147,000.

Biggs spent £40,000 on plastic surgery in Paris and £55,000 on a fake passport and an airline ticket.

By the time Biggs got to Brazil, he had little money left.

And, he had abandoned his wife, Charmian, and their three sons.

Ronnie in Rio

When the Daily Express discovered that Biggs was in Rio de Janeiro, the British police found that they were unable to have him extradited.

This was reportedly because Biggs had got himself a Brazilian lover, a nightclub dancer, and she was pregnant.

In April 1977, Biggs attended a cocktail party on board the Royal Navy frigate Danae, which was in Rio for a courtesy visit, but he was not arrested.

Bigg's son was called Mike, and Mike became a child pop star in Brazil.

Mike Biggs was a member of the successful children's programme and music band Turma do Balão Mágico

Mike Biggs says: "I was only six years old and speaking on the telly, saying I wanted my dad back; saying the Queen wanted him but I wanted him more.

"It was then that the president of CBS records in Brazil saw me and thought I would do well as part of a boy band.

"We were the country's first boy band."

The band, The Magic Balloon Gang (Turma do Balão Mágico), did very well for six years from 1981, selling 12m records.

Mike Biggs says: "I didn't have a childhood.

"From the age of seven when I joined the band I was working, grafting sometimes seven days a week...

"When other kids were playing football I was presenting a television show.

"I'd do school in the morning from seven till noon, then record the show in the afternoon.

"The other boys in the band lived in Sao Paulo, but because of the terms of my dad's parole, we had to reside in Rio.

"So I had to fly to Sao Paulo every day.

"It meant I had to grow up very quickly.

"At the weekends we did the concerts - 30,000, sometimes 60,000 people.

"We toured with Ricky Martin and sold out the Maracana (Brazil's biggest stadium) four times."

In April 1981, Biggs was kidnapped by a gang of British mercenaries.

The boat they took him aboard suffered mechanical problems off Barbados and had to be towed into port.

The authorities in Barbados returned Biggs to Brazil.

Sverre Helgesen

According to the 'actor' Sverre Helgesen:

Sverre Helgesen was friends with a number of mercenaries, including Jimmy Duggan.

Sverre also knew a mercenary, Jean Schramme, who hired a chateau in France every summer as a training camp for his men - mostly ex-SS.

Schramme owned the red-light area behind Le Grand Place in Brussels.

Sverre Helgesen knew the novelist Frederick Forsyth, who (allegedly) acted as the intelligence officer for the  mercenaries associated with Jimmy Duggan.

According to Sverre Helgesen:

Jimmy Duggan was approached by a gay bank clerk (Jimmy was bisexual) and together with Rolf Steiner and Jean Schramme, planned 'The Great Train Robbery', to finance their coups.

"The money was to be flown out within the hour on a plane flown by David Ferrie (of JFK fame). I met him at Jimmy’s; he was well-known by the mercs."

There have been suggestions, too, that Otto Skorzeny had a hand in the robbery.

The Train Robbers

On August 8, 1963 a British hoodlum named Ronald Biggs participated in what came to be called "the Great Train Robbery," sharing more than $7-million in cash and valuables stolen from a Glasgow-to-London mail-train.

Apprehended, and sentenced to 30 years, Biggs escaped from prison in 1965. Fleeing to France, he relied upon an international criminal network to obtain plastic surgery and passage to Australia. Tracked by the police as the "most wanted" man in the world, Biggs subsequently found his way to Rio de Janeiro (where extradition is, at best, a rarity).

Piers Paul Read's The Train Robbers is of interest. Read undertook to write the book more than a decade after the robbery, and long after several other books had already been published on the subject. What made these unpromising circumstances auger well, according to Read, were two things: first, he had the cooperation of most of the men who'd pulled off the robbery. Previously, only Ronald Biggs had given an account, and Biggs was considered an outsider by those who had conceived and executed the plan. Second, and even more importantly, the gang confided important new information to Read. This was that the train robbery, and several of the subsequent escapes, had been financed and finessed by Gen. Otto Skorzeny. Among other things, this explained why it had never been possible to account for more than half of the money stolen in the robbery.

come on Aangirfan! (don't block me like VT please)...
''an attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea by mercenaries''... much like that of the very recent attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea by Simon Mann and other former SAS Ops (financed by the likes of Mark Thatcher, J P Archer... wonder who that could be!... honestly!)

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (in reference to Simon Mann)
''I will sodomise and eat him'' :D well... that's one way to teach your enemies a lesson!

The bank clerk suggested was probably a clerk for the Post Office, the people freighting the money on the train. Research is often a fraught business and small mistakes the norm, especially after 40-50 years. No biggie.

The clerk was a mere go-between, the real mastermind was a likely a member of the Stock Exchange who's family fortune had taken a rapid dive, he getting into various projects to fill his coffers before his credentials were checked (every 5 years or so all board members finances were checked) he financing porn, prostitution, crime etc. He likely went to school with members of the Bank of England and the Post Office, member of the same clubs etc., and heard talk of the shipments.

He obviously knew the Richardson's and thus had a way into the underworld. Obviously? Charlie Richardson was in the DM a while back, in a photo alongside an RR with clear plates. It was not his, as one might assume, it was a new 1960 RR company car registered to a new member of the Stock Exchange. Can't source a name, yet, but have a pic of the guy I'm certain is him. he had a recognisable bulbous tip to his nose. A pic that ties the man to porn. Maybe one of you guys has better access to archives than me?

Jimmy Duggan was likely working for MI6 all the time from his national service, as Maurice Lucien-Brun (still alive and running a b&b in south France) was working for French intel all the time, a famed and feared merc in the Congo and Biafra he was officially a Captain in the French army.

Duggan was probably the SA bank clerk cum merc Alexander Ramsey Gay in Biafra and recent development indicates he was also the merc Frederick 'Flash' Gibson from Newcastle. Gibson lived in Rhodesia and was married (in secret, as she was a black African princess) with kids, a family he abandoned in '67 when he was forced to duck and dive as he was being hunted. This ties-in with Gay ducking Biafra.

Gibson attended a conference/party in Mayfair every year during the mid-60's, lasting a week, my impecable source says lots of mercs (who also visited in Harare and thus known) and recognisable famous people attended (Duggan knew famous showbiz people). So he was still active at this time. One must assume it stayed this way after '67, my source has only started researching recently, the family never saw him again. Gibson was apparently killed in the 60's but my source was certain he had planned a runner (easy to arrange a spare body with the right papers, mmm?)

Duggan was being hunted by the Brits in 'late 62, so it seems likely they weren't really looking too hard if he was in the UK when and if he wanted, despite his disguises he would be spotted, especially as he had old army mates in the UK Border Control. This ties-in with him being MI6, and he doing a lot of work for them. Basically, he was a James Bond. Did he know Fleming? Certainly knew Mountbatten.

Duggan is probably living in Jo'burg today, under a new name, suspect person was alive several years ago, but my source disappeared.

I've been called all sorts of names in my time - the trolls have had a field-day! - but slowly you disbelievers are beginning to realise I'm actually fairly sane. There's a million unanswered questions out there, huge, confusing gaps, but with the www we are slowly beginning to understand the evil going-on behind our backs.
