MADELEINE McCANN - A PATSY EMERGES

A man, who had been sacked by the owners of the holiday complex where Madeleine McCann was staying, 'has been identified as the main suspect' in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The man died in a tractor accident in 2009.

"Sounds to me as though he is being made a 'patsy' and as he's dead no one can corroborate his side of the story."

A portuguese newspaper, Correio da Manha, reports that the 40-year-old, who had once worked at the Ocean Club resort, might have snatched Maddie in revenge after being sacked.

'Police identified the man as their main suspect after mobile phone records indicated he was around the McCanns' apartment in Praia da Luz when Maddie disappeared.'

The flat is a 15-minute drive from Lagos where the unnamed suspect was living after he was sacked.

"[He] might have snatched Maddie in revenge after being sacked."

In what possible universe might that be a sensible response to getting sacked? Had he kidnapped the resort owner's daughter I might conceivably have bought it. Or if he'd burnt down the resort and accidentally killed someone's daughter, I'd have bought that. But to kidnap some unrelated third party punter's daughter as an act of revenge that will barely affect the second party at all...? That doesn't make a lick of sense. Honestly, as motives go this reeks of desperation.

But whatever! The guy's dead. Blame him. Everyone may now go back about their business.

best etc. etc.

Not all that desperate as much as extremely convenient and, one might almost say, ingenious, never mind the common sense. A "known criminal", safely dead, OF COURSE he must have been the "abductor". Case not necessarily closed, though....
