Child abuse increasing in Japan

In Japan, child abuse cases reached a record high in 2012.

Enjo-kōsai is "a form of child prostitution whereby participating girls sell their bodies in exchange for designer goods or money."

"In a 1998 survey by the Asian Women's Fund, researchers found that more than 20 percent of all high school girls engage in enjo-kōsai and over 90 percent of the girls interviewed attested to feeling uncomfortable with the exchange or purchase of sexual services for money.[4]"

"Teachers, monks, government officials, company executives, and others of high social status have been arrested for their involvement with enjo kōsai."[7]

Comfort Women and Children 1945

Kim Bok-dong was aged 14 when she was tricked into becoming a sex slave for the Japanese military.

For four years she was transported around Asia, "being systematically raped by hundreds of Japanese soldiers"

She was taken to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Guangdong, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Comfort girl

According to Professor Yuki Tanaka, from the early 1930s until 1945, Japan operated "the largest and most elaborate system of trafficking in women in the history of mankind".

South Korea urges Japan to make amends to second world war sex slaves

Comfort girls.

The mayor of Osaka, Toru Hashimoto, says that a “comfort women” system was necessary to keep the soldiers happy.

The Japanese enslaved as many as 410,000 “comfort women” from Korea, China, and Southest Asia to serve as prostitutes and raise the spirits of the Japanese soldiers. Approximately three quarters of them died and most survivors were left infertile.

Hullo Aang,

When I first went to Japan child pornography was not illegal yet. It is now of course. But I should say that even though it was not against the law, in all my travels I encountered it only once. This was in a single bookstore in Jimbocho (the bookshop district of Tokyo) that rambled through two or three stories, with books of all description piled to the ceiling everywhere, and yet the child pornography section comprised a single foot of shelf space.

I've no idea what it comprised exactly since I was too surprised that it existed at all. The conversation with my longtime resident buddy consisted of, 'Is that what I think it is?' 'Yeah, it's not illegal here'. Okay, let's avert our eyes.

The thing is even then there was tons of regular porn on VHS and in magazines and manga etc. and all featuring women dressed as schoolgirls, and yet in terms of actual schoolgirls there was almost nothing. How come? Was this because of a lack of interest? You'd have to assume so since if there was a demand there was no reason not to supply it.

There's probably some logic explaining this but I have no idea what it might be. As is, I find this absence of real kiddy porn in the face of a ubiquity of fake stuff to be somewhat puzzling.

best etc. etc.

Also on-topic but sideways, are you familiar with the theory that the Japanese royal family was descended from Jews? I was pointed at this by a Japanese friend of mine. For him, in amongst any number of very strange resemblances, the spookiest aspect were the lyrics of the national anthem. In Japanese the words are pretty much unintelligible and obtuse even when explained and weirdly seem to make more sense as Hebrew transliterated.

I in no way take this as a sure thing but it is weird and not least of all to Japanese people.

best etc. etc.

@Anony 10:40 - the theory about the Japanese royals descending from Jews is old. As a matter of fact all ruling/royal families are rumored to descend from them. I call it Zio propaganda and massive disinfo. Impossibility as well.

This is what a Japanese citizen claims.
