ANGELS

"Near-death experiences occur when the soul leaves the nervous system."

This is according to two quantum physicists, Dr Stuart Hameroff, of the University of Arizona, and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose

And what about angels?

Liz Jones. "An anorexic since she was about 11, Jones was raised in Essex, the daughter of an army father and a former ballerina,[4]Liz Jones - Wikipedia

In the Daily Mail, journalist Liz Jones has written about being "the most sceptical person on the planet."

Liz Jones's 17-year-old cat, Snoopy, becomes ill, with kidney and liver failure.

When drinking water, Snoopy lets his head fall into his bowl.

Liz is told about a psychic healer, a man called Terry Shubrook.

Despite having misgivings, Liz gives him a call.

Over the phone, Terry tells Liz of the time when he had been working with a woman who was trying to conceive.

"During a session, an energy came down to her and I knew it was the soul of a child. Two weeks later, she rang to tell me she was pregnant."

Terry tells Liz that Snoopy is not yet ready to leave her.

Terry "uses Snoopy's angels."

The following week, the vet tests Snoopy's blood and urine.

They are both 'normal'.

Doreen Virtue

Liz contacts 'the queen of angel therapy', Doreen Virtue, who has treated 'famous movie stars'.

According to Wikipedia, "Doreen was born on April 29, 1958 to a Christian Scientist family in California. [7]

"She claims to have had clairvoyant abilities such as seeing and conversing with spirits since she was a young child." [8]

Doreen has been divorced from four husbands.

Doreen has taken an interest in Theosophy which is linked to the spooky Madam Blavatsky and the Kabbala.

"Virtue's Ph.D. is from an unaccredited program at Clarkson University in Southern California. She charges $2500 to train a person to become a medium."

The Daily Mail's Liz comments that "this all sounds a bit American, wacky..."

Jenny Smedley

Liz next speaks to Jenny Smedley, who is based in Somerset, and who claims to use angels to help people.

Jenny Smedley claims that, at the age of 45, while she was travelling on a train and meditating, she met an angel.

'The angel showed me my life path,' she says. 'Most of us don't know why we are here. I was lucky to be told I was to be a spiritual seed planter. If you follow your path, that is where true happiness comes from; it can't be taken away by outside influences.'

Liz wonders if these therapists using angels are just tapping into our anxieties.

However, Jenny announces that Liz's guardian angel is telling her that Liz's nephew will be OK.

Liz comments that Jenny could not have known that a nephew was suffering from leukaemia.

Jenny tells Liz: "There is plenty of love to come for you. There is turquoise around your angel, which indicates that the love will come from abroad. This will be a foreign-speaking man, from a hot country."

Jenny tells Liz that there are two types of angel: "past-life angels that give you 'horrible nudges' so that you will do better in the next life, and guardian angels, which direct you in your everyday life."

Jenny suggests that Liz should draw an image of how she wants her life to be, and to write eight words around the image: these could be 'happy' or 'free'.

Liz is advised to repeat this 'mantra' at various times during the day.

Liz tries to do this the next morning and feels "a bit daft", but thinks it puts her "in a good frame of mind".

Horst Rechelbacher

Liz contacts Horst Rechelbacher, who claims he has been guided by angels all his life.

Horst Rechelbacher is the founder of Aveda, the plant-based beauty company that makes such things as hair care products, and which was recently sold to Estee Lauder for $300million.

Rechelbacher tells Liz that he has been 'amazed how many different cultures believe in angels'.

Finally, Liz visits Sohini Patel on London's Harley Street.

Sohini is an osteopath who uses angels to help treat her patients.

Sohini tells Liz that her heart is wounded and that she needs to come out of her self-imposed hibernation.

Liz had moved to the countryside after her divorce a year previously.

Sohini then says something that makes Liz 'freeze'.

'I can sense a bottle,' she says. 'Wine.'

Liz does not tell Sohini that, having been depressed, she has enjoyed a glass of wine in the evenings, and, that her family has a history of alcoholism.

Sohini's hands 'hover' over Liz's left knee.

Sohini tells Liz that a bad spirit has attached itself to that part of Liz's body six days previously.

'Is your sister having problems with her knee?' asks Sohini.

Liz comments: "Now, this is weird.

"Six days before, I had had a stand-up screaming match with my sister, and the resentment was still brewing. The row happened the night before my sister had surgery - on her left knee."

Sohini advises Liz: "Listen to your gut instincts. Repeat the words: 'Trust and relax. Trust and relax..

"At night, at least once a week, soak in a sea salt bath for 15 minutes. This will cleanse your body, release the energy.

"When you go to bed, ask your angels a question. In the morning, when you wake up, you will have the answer.

"When you hear a voice telling you the answer, say what they are telling you out loud: it makes it more real, and you're more likely to remember it."

Liz feels a weight has lifted from my shoulders.

Liz's mobile rings.

It is a text from a man she have been wanting to hear from, asking her out for dinner.

He has just come to England from abroad.

(Jenny Smedley had told Liz: "There is plenty of love to come for you. There is turquoise around your angel, which indicates that the love will come from abroad. This will be a foreign-speaking man, from a hot country.")

I then get some good news about a work problem.

Liz asks: "Have I been helped by my guardian angels or do I merely think I have? Is this the placebo effect...

I am not sure if there is any truth to all this. So many charlatans have been caught by using the people's good faith. In some situations if a person is desperate, they will believe in anything. It is interesting that in many situations these so called experts can not solve their own personal problems like the woman going through so many divorces. If you have such special gifts to help others, you would think that you would have better judgement to choose your own partner.

WHEN MY MOTHER DOED I WENT TO ANOTHER AREA AND ENTEREDA SPIRITUALIST CHURCH, THE MEDIUM THERE TOLD ME THINGS ABOUT MY MUM SHE COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE GUESSED, THIS GOT ME HOOKED AND I THEN BEGAN TO SEEK OUT MEDIUMS AND GO TO CHURCH MEETINGS

I used to know Doreen Virtue. She is a con artist and a phony. Spirits are real, but they only tell you enough good news to get you hooked; never enough to protect you or warn you. The Creator speaks to everyone if you listen. You don't need a "medium" to get ALL the truth.

I gave up on psychics and mediums a few years ago after reading this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Full-Facts-Book-Cold-Reading/dp/0955847605/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351885318&sr=8-1

The vast majority I believe are fake.

I do however believe other dimensions exist and other entities exist in these dimensions. Matthew Delooze's books are also worth a read.

They were no angels: Headmistress's cruel dismissal of the girls abused by Jimmy Savile (and she claims no-one told her what he was up to)

Schoolgirls molested by Jimmy Savile were dismissed as 'delinquents' yesterday by their former headmistress.

Margaret Jones said some of her pupils at Duncroft Approved School were 'no angels', and had traded sex for cigarettes.
...
One former pupil, Kathleen Webb – who has now made a statement to police – alleged that when she reported Savile's abuse to the headmistress, Miss Jones replied: 'Don't you dare tell lies like that.' Miss Jones said she does not remember the pupil in question.

This is a fascinating topic in its own right.

The word angel is an anglicization of the greek word ἄγγελος, meaning messenger. This dates to the earliest translations of the greek New Testament into English. That's direct etymology of the word itself.

In Islam, the arabic word, ملائكة, for angels also has a root meaning of messenger.

The concept of course goes back further to judaic sources. The hebrew word, מלאך, mal'akh, also meaning messenger.

The concept has much older analogues in other religions, from Sumerian, Egyptian, Chinese and Mayan polytheism to Australian religions going back tens of thousands of years: the idea of benign messengers to mankind from the one ultimate Creator God.

The essential idea of monotheism is that only one being is worthy of worship, the ultimate Creator. Historically in Judaism, the notion of other occult, or hidden, beings is not even taught until one turns 40 to avoid the risk of polytheistic reverence to these lesser entities.

As described in various books of the Old Testament, angels are messengers of the one Creator, immortal spiritual beings not of this world, who serve in absolute obedience. In Islam they are specifically described as lacking free will. Hence despite their impressive nature, being immortal beings of pure light, endowed with divine wisdom and knowledge, they still lack one thing that man possesses. Man, the lowly primordial creature fabricated from macromolecular slime and mud, is granted free will, is not compelled deterministically to do good, but can choose between good and evil, can be held accountable for the consequences of his actions.

Free will presumably also means capable of creativity, of originating one's own thoughts, which makes us in many ways far more interesting and useful than purely deterministic creations. But potentially also far more dangerous and unpredictable, hence the need for a selection process and to keep us in the closed off little box that is our world.

It is in this sense that we are created in the image of our Maker. Our capability for free will, imagination and empathy.

Interestingly, angels are described as having one or more sets of wings, as we so know and love from cartoons and representational artwork through the ages. This presumably refers to their manifestations in their own world. Why they would have wings is anyone's guess.

In distinction, their manifestations in this world are described as having purely human resemblance, often described as having no need of food and having no signs of travel or fatigue, as if they appeared from nowhere, put there directly by our Creator.

It is also mentioned in jewish and islamic sources that humans may interact with them oblivious of their non-human nature.

That is, they are sent specifically to test or probe the human world. Almost experimental, you could say.

[...Continued]

Other spiritual beings are described in the monotheistic religions. In Islam, there are spiritual beings external to this world that have direct access to our world and are manifest in their influence on our thoughts, for example. To us, these beings are hidden. They are also described as having free will. Like us, they have no direct knowledge of higher worlds, and are just as capable as us of virtue or vice, belief or atheism.

In Islam, it is not clear if iblis, the enemy of man, is this kind of spiritual being, that refuses to believe that humanity is created in the image of the ultimate Creator. Like us, iblis is put to the test, almost as if it is being chided: "To you, humanity is a mere petri dish of repellent slime, capable of depravity and evil. Yet I know what you do not. The lowly slime is also capable of creativity, beauty and love: of building wondrous cathedrals of the mind. You are given this chance to prove otherwise. Fail and you will be punished for your arrogance."

Even for atheists this can be a fascinating topic: tracing etymology and the historical epidemiology of memes through the ideosphere.

Of course, atheism, the belief that we are magically incapable of being synthesized, can be difficult to maintain once you have an appreciation of the sheer explosive and illimitable complexity of the world of the mind, human, animal or otherwise.

Ultimately, atheism is a defunct ideology. Atheists are the flatearthers of the future.

Funnily enough, when Jacques Monod published "La Chance et la Nécessité" decades ago, if you told any evolutionary biologist you believe in God, he would look at you with mild amusement, condescension and a barely concealed smirk.

Atheists will still think it pure sophistry, but I predict the following:

Within twenty years, if you tell an evolutionary biologist you are an atheist, he will look at you with mild amusement, condescension and a barely concealed smirk.

Because at that time, the godless will still be skeptical. But the godly will simply be more skeptical. Even of the very world we perceive.

The godless will still believe in evolution. But the godly will simply believe in it more.

Generalized information theoretic evolution.

Because an Immortal and Creative Being was either always there, or least, is an inevitable consequence of chance and necessity.

Of necessity, modern man will embrace both the church and reason.

Philosophical Dictionary, by Voltaire

ANGELS.

Excerpt:

Angels of the Hebrews.

The Hebrews knew nothing of the fall of the angels until the commencement of the Christian era. This secret doctrine of the ancient Brahmins must have reached them at that time, for it was then that the book attributed to Enoch, relative to the sinful angels driven from heaven, was fabricated.
