The Prophet related: "While a man was walking down a road, he became very thirsty. Then he came across a well, descended into it, drank and emerged. He saw a dog panting and licking the mud out of great thirst. The man said to himself: 'This dog is suffering from thirst just as I did.' So he again descended the well, filled his shoe with water, held the shoe between his teeth and brought the water up for the dog. God thanked him for this deed and forgave him."
The people asked, "Is there reward for us in serving animals?". He said, "Yes, there is reward in serving any living being."
