Generals, millionaires, schools and hospitals

"Unlike in Singapore or Malaysia, in Indonesia there is a serious lack of investment in roads, schools, houses and hospitals for ordinary Indonesians.

"THANG D NGUYEN wrote of Indonesia in 2004: 'Where are the new schools, hospitals, roads, post offices, and other infrastructure that the public needs and foreign investors require?...The lack of infrastructure in Indonesia is not just due to the limited government funding for them or corruption of public servants. It is also a reflection of the lack of corporate social responsibility among Indonesian business leaders.' Thang D. Nguyen's Column: Get your priorities right

"The key people in Indonesia are still the former Suharto generals and the millionaire Chinese-Indonesian businessmen."
